Is an interactive website (currently under construction) & will allow users to upload their personal stories into a living Quilt that features media created by/about women and girls who are infected, impacted, & at risk for HIV/AIDS. Media produced can be auto-biographical and biographical vignettes that include videos, audio, & text, images (& any combination thereof).
in 2008, participation from ten Black and Latina women from New Jersey initially helped launch this project. Through their stories, we are brought into their worlds and come to better understand the feminized impact of HIV/AIDS. The courageous and visionary women identified aspects of their lives through the lens of HIV/AIDS. Many included family members and friends in their stories to recognize their support structures and how they are impacted.
Sistahs Survive & Thrive welcomes participation from a wide range of women and girls from diverse ethnicities, ages, socio-economic classes, and who identify as lesbian, heterosexual, bisexual, & transgender. Men & boys may also participate in the Quilt as long as they include a woman or girl who is impacted, infected, or at risk. Everyone is encouraged to make & submit an HIV/AIDS prevention or intervention tip.
The pioneer collection features: Janice & her husband Andre; Anna Jackson, her son Abdul, & her grand daughters Emijah & Violet; Haneefa; Cynt & her fiance Danny; Wanda Yancy & her grand daughter Anya; Jai; Kryssy; Ms. M.; Gina; & Aleshia Williams.
