In this experimental film noir, Nico and Maricel pretend to be roommates to avoid being ostracized by family, co-workers & friends for being lesbians who cross class and race lines. Nico fears loosing her job if her boss realizes she’s a lesbian in love with a Filipina domestic worker. When Nico chooses work over Maricel, she retaliates with an affair. When Nico ends their relationship, Maricel resorts to violence. Their story offers a window into the oppressive ways in which cultural institutions of homophobia, racism, & anti-immigrant sentiment fuel externalized & internalized homophobia & create pressure to conform to heterosexual and class norms.
